Cutting our carbon by more than half: Citipost Mail’s 2025/26 results

Over the last four reporting years, Citipost Mail has been on a focused carbon reduction journey. In 2025/26, our total greenhouse gas emissions were 55.7% lower than our original 2022/23 baseline and 16.0% lower than in 2024/25. In simple terms, we have more than halved our operational footprint in four reporting cycles, while continuing to support clients with their mail campaigns.

To anchor that progress, our organisational footprint has reduced from 341.47 tCO2e in 2022/23 to 151.27 tCO2e in 2025/26. Behind those numbers are many practical decisions made across the business, not a single one‑off initiative.

Measuring what matters

Each year, our organisational carbon footprint is assessed by Carbon Neutral Britain using methodologies aligned with ISO 14064‑1:2018 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. This gives us a consistent, recognised way to measure our impact and track progress over time.

The assessment covers:

  • Direct emissions from fuel used on site (Scope 1)
  • Purchased electricity and electric vehicle usage (Scope 2)
  • Indirect emissions such as business travel, homeworking, staff commuting, hotel stays, waste and water (Scope 3)

Using this data, we can see where changes are working and where more focus is needed.

Where the reductions are coming from

Like many service businesses, most of our footprint sits in Scope 3. For Citipost Mail, the biggest contributors are:

  • Business travel
  • Staff commuting
  • Energy usage on site

Over the past four years, we have systematically reduced emissions in each of these areas through:

  • More targeted and efficient business travel
  • Smarter use of hybrid working and commuting choices
  • Ongoing attention to energy efficiency across our sites

This steady, practical approach is what lies behind the “over 50%” reduction headline.

Four consecutive years of Carbon Neutral certification

Alongside reducing emissions, we have maintained independent Carbon Neutral certification for four consecutive years. Once our footprint is calculated each year, we offset the remaining emissions through internationally certified projects under standards such as Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, Gold Standard and the United Nations Certified Emission Reductions mechanism.

Projects include renewable energy generation, methane capture and household solar, chosen for both their emissions impact and wider social benefits. Offsetting does not replace the need to reduce our own emissions, but it complements our reduction efforts while we continue to drive down our operational footprint.

Why this matters for our clients

For Citipost Mail, sustainability is part of building a stronger, more responsible business and giving clients confidence that their expert partner is taking clear, measurable action. Cutting our emissions by more than half in four years shows that carbon performance is being actively managed, not just reported.

For clients, this means:

  • Mail campaigns are supported by a supplier that is reducing its own operational impact
  • Our carbon position is calculated and assured using recognised international standards
  • Our progress can help support clients’ own ESG, procurement and reporting requirements

Choosing Citipost Mail means choosing a partner that takes climate responsibility seriously and can evidence that commitment.

What happens next

The 2025/26 results are an important milestone, but not the finish line. Looking ahead, our focus includes:

  • Further reducing avoidable business travel through smarter planning and lower‑emission transport choices
  • Improving data on commuting patterns and encouraging lower‑emission commuting options where practical
  • Continuing to build on energy efficiency gains across our sites
  • Developing the next stage of our net zero direction, including formal targets and governance

We will continue to measure our footprint annually, maintain independent verification and share our progress with clients and stakeholders.
